Yesterday I clicked on an ad for Progressive and got a quote for my 5 vehicle fleet. I was shocked to see it’s about $800 a year less than my USAA for even more coverage.

Obviously it’s time to revisit my insurance. Has anyone had experience with P rogressive? How is the service? Any one had a claim experience?

I had Progressive and had a windshield claim that they handled very fast as I was leaving in vacation the following day. I had to drive the car to a Progressive service center and they had it ready for me the following day. The windshield was covered and they gave me a check for the associated dent in my fender. I was very pleased and everyone was very helpful.

And now I have Geico because it’s cheaper for me. I wish I could bundle the renters insurance I have at  my garage, but they don't offer high enough coverage.

I’ve been with them for over a decade. I have nothing but nice things to say. When I was younger (and dumber)  I was way underinsured and carried only $10k in liability. I had an accident that caused about $16k in damage to another vehicle. Not only did they cover it without saying a word, my rates never increased.

I pay for much better coverage now, but it’s still cheaper than any quote I’ve ever gotten. I recommend them to everyone.

I’ve had them for about 8 years. Whenever I shop around, I do not see anything much cheaper (old car, though).

One claim, and considering the circumstances, it went pretty well. I was rear-ended by an unisured driver in CA. The car legally is owned by my dad, in IL. The insurance is under my name. Everything was smooth, they didn’t give a rats ass about the uncommon ownership thing, but the only minor inconvenience was they needed my dad to approve the claim, but that was done over the phone. They tried to steer me to use their “all in one claim/repair/etc” facility, but I was like pass, and picked my own shop. The adjuster handled everything else through the shop. I didn’t pay my deductible (I think the shop wrote the repair for $500 more to throw me a bone), and I was on my merry way about 5 weeks later.

If the claim was my fault? I have no idea if it would have been as smooth, but it seemed like they had their shit together.

My wife had them for five years and it was for a criminal amount given it was liability only and she had a perfect driving record. I did not care for their customer service. GEICO offered the same coverage for one-third the price and we had them for maybe five more years.

my brother in law was an adjuster and now manages a team over hear. his stories seem to suggest that actually want to be in your side. don't expect then to do anything beyond the scope of insurance and they'll work hard to not be a dick

Insurance companies all suck, by the nature of their business. The goal of all of them is to take in more $$$ while paying out less.

Part of their programs include not only predicting loss rates, but also loyalty rates. They have figured out that once a customer is with them for a bit, they are less likely to switch. They use this to charge loyal customers more than new ones.

The way around this is to shop around at every policy renewal. Don’t get emotionally attached to your insurance agent, screw ‘em.

I’ve had Geico since I’ve had to pay for my own insurance. I’ve shopped around many times and they come back either the cheapest or the same price. I, unfortunately , made a claim in late 2015 and they were so easy to work with.

My only experience is that every time I’ve shopped around they’ve been way more than GEICO for the same coverage.

I've only ever had progressive, had a couple claims and they've been pretty easy to work with, it's been a year or so since I shopped around but I've had them for like 8 years and any potential savings wasn't enough to justify a switch.

I’ve had progressive since dropping All-Sucks. No complaints, I cross shop every few years but their rates are pretty good and they handled an I FUCKED UP claim very well.

I've had them for about 5 years now, I think. Been happy with them, but never had to file a claim. They've always been the cheapest carrier for me, usually by no small margin.

It’s insurance. Unless you’re the relative of a C level executive who warrants significant priority treat ment, they’ll all mostly treat you the same assuming that they actually want to be an insurance company, and bigger ones can absorb the costs of managing a lot of claims without too much waste if you don’t need a personal touch.

That being said i was with Geico for many years due to inertia and I switched to Progressive and saved something like $ 1000 for 6 months, with better and more customizable coverage.

I did use Progressive years ago, when there was hail in Scottsdale and my then-new WRX got hit in it. They set up camp in a parking lot, reviewed everyone’s car claims en-masse, cut me a check and let me drive away. It was actually pretty darn efficient.

Also, I don’t mind their website, I like it more than Geico’s but that’s a personal preference.

I had them for 8 years I got one ticket and my rates doubled, I the switched to Esurance who gives a great introductory rate then 6 months later jacked it up. I’m with State Farm now.

Considering they have put food on my table for almost 14 years I would say that as far as insurance companies go they seem to care about customer satisfaction. Now of course nothing is free but as a rule I find we try to err on our insureds side when it comes to things and do make every attempt to get you paid ASAP so take that for what it’s worth

I used to, they were ok but State Farm is really great with older cars and I can’t use Hagerty because I don’t meet their storage requirements.

Got hit by a progressive customer in my MINI. Took for ever (weeks) to get the claim handled to where I could take the car to get fixed. Original adjuster-agent disappeared and it took days to get any calls returned, and days to get assigned a new agent.

They did cover it all in the end and the shop that did the work (Service King) did an amazing job, so there’s that.

Or, alternately, use a good independent agent who actually looks at quotes from multiple companies and finds you the best deal. My independent agent saved me over $1,000 my last renewal

I’ve had them for almost seven years now and really don’t have too many complaints given that I’ve never had a claim. I think the rate is too high when compared to a former co-worker who was younger, had tickets on his record (I have none), and drove a more expensive, sportier car than my minivan.

I suspect that some of that came from what I told them when I bought the van. They asked who was my previous carrier and I told them that I didn’t have one since I wasn’t driving. I couldn’t afford registration and insurance so I voluntarily parked my car, put it on PNO and used public transportation and a Razor scooter (kind of a silly thing for a middle-aged man to ride , but it was what I felt to be the right thing at the time (just don’t ask about the scars and broken ribs))   . They didn’t seem to care that I did the proper, mature and responsible thing in that situation, and only cared that there was a lapse in coverage. That is total and complete BS and I will forever hold a grudge for that stupidity and lack of understanding  on their part.

I’ve enjoyed my experience with them for the past year. Since I’ve had them I backed into a car(that stupidly pulled up behind me in a tiny parking lot and parked suddenly) and slammed my truck through a stop sign and telephone pole as well as had somebody hit and run my fiancé. Ours rates didn’t go up an astronomical amount and each time was a pretty painless process.

That is literally every insurance company. They have some type of secretive rating system that takes that into account.

I remember some two or three years ago, Hagerty stated that only locked garages/storage units would qualify, but they’ve amended the relevant section on their websites (CAN and US) to say that carports and driveways may be considered.

Of course, I don’t know if that’s actually the case in practice.

Only experience we’ve had was when we were shopping around a few years ago. Progressive was about $600/year more than we currently paid and they couldn’t even offer us the same level of coverage.

It’s weird that’s it’s taking several years for your stuff to be past that. I thought most stuff didn’t matter to them after 3-5 years
